Oar readers all romerrber about the killing of Ed. Hartman, in Lumberton. some time ago, by Miss Amelia Linkhaw, of that town, for aUeged sediction, and nerjreoeat trial and acquittal. There is another chapter In the same story, that of Miss Linkhaw's life, which is just given to the public and which we find ia the columns of the Caarlotte Observer. That paper says that duriag the period of Miss Linkhaw's oonfinesbent in the jail at Lumberton, when the only companion she had was her child, which was . born after the enactment of the tragedy, she received Many letters from sympathetic persons in ail parts of the country. Among her cor respondents was a man named Little, who, is represented as a custom house officer stationed at Sullivan's Island, near Chan, leaton. He became deeply Interested in her and wrte to her repeatedly while the was in prison. 1 On the night the trial was expected to c'ose he was on the Island, and in attempting to reach Charleston during the prevalence of a severe storm, that he might hear a the earliest possible moment whether she was to lire or die, .ho barely escaped being lost by the c "p3ixlng of the boat. When discovered this morning, about 6:45 oci'ock Dr. O'Docohue was called, add he found him silting in the chair dead He tells us that he heard Dr. Everitt say last Saturday night that he was subject to attacks ot angina pectoris, (heart disease) and it is his opinion that when be awoke during the night, he got. up to get some water, and was taken with' an attack which produced death. Dr. O'D. thinks he must have been dead about two hours, and that he died without a struggle, and he does not believe that be took any drug to deprive himself of life. : About 5 p.m. yesterday,' Dr.McCombs attended him and administered medicine hyperdermically to relieve pain.
